State Attorney’s Office Finds Wynwood Police Shooting Justified

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office determined that three Miami officers’ use of deadly force was legally justified in a June 14, 2025, shooting near a Wynwood nightclub. The office said no criminal charges will be filed against Sgt. Jose Cabrera, Sgt. Javier Herbello or Officer Dorian Acosta.

Authorities said Norman Lindo Jr. had a gun during an altercation near the nightclub’s exit and did not comply with officers’ orders to drop it. Cabrera, Herbello and Acosta fired, striking Lindo multiple times; he later died at a hospital. Evelyn Valdes, 28, was in the rear seat of a vehicle leaving the area when she was struck by a bullet during the shooting. She died at a hospital. Nightclub manager John Fortini was also injured and treated for a hand injury.
