Prosecutors rested their case in Alberto Sierra’s sentencing trial after Michael Padrino Jr. delivered a victim-impact statement. A 12-member jury must decide whether Sierra, who pleaded guilty to the murders, will receive the death penalty or life in prison. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez is presiding.
Sierra admitted suffocating his estranged wife, Gladys Machado, and her daughters, Julia and Daniela, with a plastic bag on Nov. 10, 2012. Their bodies were found three days later in a closet at the Flagami home they had shared.
