A Miami-Dade County judge disqualified incumbent North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme from the upcoming mayoral election, ruling that cashier’s checks do not qualify as checks drawn on a candidate’s campaign account.
The ruling invalidated two checks Desulme submitted on Aug. 10 for qualifying fees: one for $4,494 and another for $898.80. George Morgan, Desulme’s opponent, filed an emergency complaint on Oct. 8 alleging that the payments made Desulme ineligible to run.
Early voting in Miami-Dade County began Monday.
