Christian Emmanuel Sanon was scheduled to stand trial in Miami in a case connected to the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.
Sanon faces eight charges, including conspiring to kidnap or kill someone outside the United States. He has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors have said he helped raise money for the conspiracy and arranged travel and lodging for himself and others.
U.S. prosecutors have charged more than 40 people in connection with the assassination, and a dozen have been convicted. Dozens of people arrested in the case are still awaiting trial in Miami.
