Miami-Dade commissioners discussed possible changes to the county’s six enclosed slides at an October 20 meeting, including replacing them with open structures and posting warning signs. They also requested a report on the slides’ age, useful life and replacement timing. The county said all six passed inspections, and no immediate removals were announced. It said an attraction found to have a safety problem would be closed until the issue is corrected.
The review follows the September 25 death of 13-year-old Olvin Cabrera, who apparently became trapped in a slide at Shenandoah Park. Separately, the City of Miami has closed four enclosed slides while inspecting its equipment.
