AOC Facility Details and Technology
The $33-million, 13,254-square-foot operations and emergency response facility will be equipped with AI-powered long-range pan-tilt-zoom cameras, real-time digital tower technology, and a massive HD-quality integrated panoramic video wall. The system will provide 360° visibility of MIA’s airside, landside, and terminal areas.
Emergency Response and Multi-Agency Coordination
The facility will feature hurricane-resistant towers, vibration-controlled platforms, and cyber-secure architecture. Accommodations for co-locating representatives from 30 agencies will allow the AOC to transition to an emergency operations center during crisis situations.
MIA’s $14-Billion Modernization Plan
The future AOC is one of more than 200 projects within the $14-billion Modernization in Action (M.I.A.) Plan, designed to transform every customer service touchpoint at the airport over the next five years. Other projects within the plan include:
- The new Ibis Garage, which opened in December 2025
- Modernization and preventive maintenance for more than 600 elevators, escalators, and moving walkways
- Renovation of 196 public access restrooms located on all three levels of MIA’s terminal and concourses
- The new Concourse K expansion, scheduled to open in 2029
- The Gate D60 expansion, scheduled for completion in 2030
MIA’s Role as an International Gateway
Miami International Airport is America’s busiest airport for international freight and the second busiest for international passengers. MIA offers more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport.
The airport is the leading economic engine for Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida, generating business revenue of $181 billion and approximately 60 percent of all international visitors to Florida annually.
