Federal authorities announced in Sweetwater on Wednesday that a coordinated operation seized 90 biodiesel shipments suspected of being unlawfully exported to a sanctioned Cuban entity. Authorities seized 71 shipments at Port Everglades, totaling about 500,000 gallons, and 19 at the Port of Houston, totaling about 119,000 gallons. The shipments were valued at nearly $3 million.
Paperwork showed the oil was bound for Enitec, a Havana-based oil wholesaler sanctioned by the U.S. government. The operation involved the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, and the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security.
