Miami-Dade commissioners voted 9-4 to raise bus and Metrorail fares from $2.25 to $2.75 starting Jan. 1. The increase is the county’s first transit fare hike in 13 years.
The measure is expected to generate about $9 million and retain late-night service on seven of 25 bus routes targeted for cuts, while preserving six of 11 routes slated for elimination. Commissioners also directed Mayor Daniella Levine Cava to return with a proposal for Metromover fares. The system remains free unless commissioners approve a separate fare plan.
