A 12-person jury in Miami began hearing evidence Tuesday in the penalty phase for Alberto Sierra. The jury will weigh aggravating and mitigating circumstances before recommending whether he should receive life in prison or the death penalty.
Sierra pleaded guilty in August to three murder counts and three kidnapping counts in the 2012 killings of his estranged wife, Gladys Machado, and her daughters, Julia, 6, and Daniella, 3. The jury is expected to hear more testimony and evidence in the coming days.
