Former Miami plastic surgeon Tomasz Kosowski was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder in the death of Steven Cozzi, a 41-year-old attorney who disappeared from his Pinellas County law office on March 21, 2023.
Cozzi’s body has not been found. The report says Kosowski waived his right to a jury trial and represented himself, leaving the verdict to a judge. He faces a possible death sentence.
The Herald reported that Cozzi had represented a Tampa Bay-area plastic surgery center that Kosowski sued in 2019. The judge found the killing was cold, calculated and premeditated and committed for financial gain, making Kosowski eligible for the death penalty. A lawyer was appointed to present mitigating evidence before sentencing, which the judge is set to determine after an Oct. 13 hearing.
