Heavy rain over the past five days flooded streets and stranded some vehicles in parts of South Florida, with preliminary National Weather Service data showing about 10 inches in North Miami Beach and Lighthouse Point by Wednesday morning.
The report says the hardest-hit areas included Fort Lauderdale, North Miami and Homestead, with at least one 911 call from North Lauderdale after water entered a vehicle Monday evening. In Fort Lauderdale, the city deployed four stormwater pumps and vactor trucks.
In Broward County, Lighthouse Point reported one sewage overflow Monday, and Wilton Manors reported two overflows Thursday after 3.5 inches of rain fell in a short period, with sewage reaching storm drains that discharge into the Middle River.
