The Hialeah City Council unanimously approved the city’s 2027 budget Tuesday, including $8 million for a proposed project involving the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library.
The $514 million budget includes $55.4 million for capital projects. The library concept would place a history museum on the building’s first floor and move library operations to a second-floor mezzanine. The report said no final design has been approved, no design firm has been retained, and city officials described the museum-library plan as a concept to be developed during the coming fiscal year.
The debate comes as the city prepares to eliminate 18 part-time library positions beginning Oct. 1. The 2027 budget includes 17 full-time library positions.
